Overview week 11/17-11/21

What’s Happening in Science? – Ms. Gora

This week the students will start to learn about the layers of the Earth. Their rock test is this Tuesday, November 18th. All late work is due Friday, November 21st.

Monday 11/17- Review for rock test. Rock cycle due. HW: Study

Tuesday 11/18- ROCK TEST

Wednesday 11/19- Intro to chapter 4, Plate tectonics. HW: read chapter 4 section 1 and take notes.

Thursday 11/20- Ch. 4.1, Inside the Earth.

Friday 11/21- Layers of the Earth.

Overview 11/3-11/7/08

What’s Happening in Science?- Ms. Gora

This week the students will continue their study on rocks, more specifically sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Mineral retakes will be this Wednesday after school and Thursday morning.

Monday 11/3- Finish biggest crystal lab: collect data, analysis, and conclusion. Due Friday.
Tuesday 11/4- Sedimentary rock. HW: Sedimentary crossword.
Wednesday 11/5- Sugar cube activity.
Thursday 11/6- Metamorphic rock.
Friday 11/7- Metamorphic Mash activity.

Overview 10/27-10/31

What’s Happening in Science? – Ms. Gora

This week the students start their studies on rocks. They will have a test on minerals on Tuesday and then learn how the minerals combine to make rocks.

Monday 10/27- Mineral review. HW: STUDY
Tuesday 10/28- Mineral test.
Wednesday 10/29- Rocks introduction.
Thursday 10/30- Igneous rocks.
Friday 10/31- Constitution Test.

Overview 10/20-10/24

What’s Happening in Science? – Ms. Gora

This week the students are finishing their studies on minerals. They will complete the “Mineral Detective” activity and look at ways minerals are mined. Monday after school and Tuesday before school are days in which the students can retake their “What is Science?” test.

Monday 10/20- Finish mineral tests. HW: Complete mineral test questions
Tuesday 10/21- Naming the unknown minerals. HW: Complete any part of activity or questions.
Wednesday 10/22- Minerals and mining. HW: Complete Mineral Detective and Mineral movie questions
Thursday 10/23- Mineral review. MINERAL DETECTIVE DUE.
Friday 10/24- “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington.”

This week the students are starting a new unit. They will begin studies on Earth Science. They will receive their books on Monday and begin learning about minerals.
Monday 10/6- Earth Science books. Read chapter 1, Minerals. HW: ES ch1.1 outline.
Tuesday 10/7- What is a mineral ppt.
Wednesday 10/8- Minerals and Grow biggest crystal lab.
Thursday 10/9- Lab protocol for Grow biggest crystal. HW: Read ES ch1.2

This week the students are finishing their studies on scientific inquiry and scientific method. They will have a mini-lab with gummy bears this week. There is a test on scientific criteria and scientific method this Friday 10/3.
